Lighthouses of the Vineyard: A Self-Guided Tour

Martha’s Vineyard is home to several historic lighthouses, each with its own personality and a story shaped by centuries of New England weather. Spending a day chasing them around the island is one of our favorite ways to slow down and see the coast.
Edgartown Harbor Light
Just a short drive from the inn, Edgartown Harbor Light sits on a small sandy point at the mouth of the harbor. The walk out is flat and easy, the view back across to Chappaquiddick is wide open, and the white tower photographs beautifully in early-morning light.
Aquinnah (Gay Head) Light
On the western tip of the island, Aquinnah Light stands above the famous clay cliffs. Plan to stay through sunset — the colors on the cliffs are something to see, and the lighthouse glow against the dusk sky is hard to forget.
Making a Day of It
If you’d like a relaxed full-day route, start with East Chop in the morning, swing through Edgartown for lunch, and finish at Aquinnah in time for sunset. We’re happy to help you map it out at the front desk.
